Plank Flooring - Rustic Yet Sophisticated

Over two hundred years ago, when wide plank floors were installed in the oldest homes in America, the craftsmen of the day used newly sawn old growth material. Much of the reclaimed lumber and timbers salvaged from old antique barns, dead standing timber and industrial buildings, originally came from the old-growth forests of early American history. These rare, old lumber produces wide plank flooring, real rustic and reclaimed antique floors, which possess a rich color, patina (the sheen on any surface, produced by age and use), and character marks associated with old growth timber.

Wide plank flooring is solid wood and milled to a uniform thickness. It is sold in random lengths from about 2 feet to 8 feet+ and wide random widths. Plank flooring is also available in widths of 4" to 20" wide and random lengths ranging from 4' to 16' long. There are three edge treatments to choose from, namely: square, rounded and beveled. The use of wider widths and longer lengths will reduce the number of end-to-end seams in the floor, creating a more authentic look.

Shamrock Plank Flooring is a division of a 100-year-old timber and saw milling company that sells the highest quality North American hardwoods to discriminating buyers worldwide. American Wide Plank Flooring is New Jersey's most experienced custom manufacturer of antique wide plank hardwood flooring, reclaimed antique barn beams and rustic mantels. Wide Plank International uses newly sawn old growth planks, not reclaimed.

Woods used in plank flooring are offered in three distinct ages: Antique, Old Growth and New Country. Wide plank flooring can be classified into: softwood plank flooring and hardwood plank flooring. The advantages of softwood over hardwood are that they are pre-finished or unfinished, structural board, designed for 'do-it-yourselfer', touch of yesteryear, more friendly to temperature changes, easily installed and comes in wider and longer lengths, interchangeable, suitable for home or cottage, recommended for commercial use, easily replaced or repaired, can be stained with any color, less expensive to refinish, four coats of industry water based finish, recommended for in-floor heating, non-allergenic and environmentally friendly, acquires a natural patina that improves with age.

Wide plank flooring is also known as antique wood flooring, rustic wood flooring, reclaimed flooring, barn wood plank flooring, white oak flooring, country plank floors, recycled wood flooring (for restoration from salvaged lumber, old lumber, vintage barn wood or old barn boards). Recycled, reclaimed wood flooring particularly a wide plank floor adds a touch of the past when building a new home and can add the unique character needed when remodeling an office or a previously built home.
