Porches and Porch floorings

Though traditional tried and tested porch floorings and its components are built of wood, certain designs like brick, stone and cement do also make gorgeous porches.

Ahh, the good old days… Nothing beats a colonial house with a spacious porch (made of wood mind you) and a rocking chair where you can casually balance your Remington on the hand rests. Maybe I'm just influenced to tears by watching Legends of the Fall (excellent movie!), or feeling true American by supporting the colonial revival.

Colonial or not, wooden porch flooring provides a gorgeous setting. It is a time proven excellent setting. It gives and leaves a feeling of timelessness, and that sort of feeling is what you want on those lazy days where you spend your days on the veranda. And believe or not, colonial porches, complete with wood porch flooring ahs even conquered the high rises of Manhattan. Porch floorings and its components are traditionally built of wood, usually made of hardwood, laminated or not. Popular wood porch flooring includes oak, maple, pine, bamboo, cherry, mahogany, and teak.

House porches that aren't made of wood are usually of brick structure. These brick porches are equally impressive, reminiscent of Victorian and Romanesque architecture. They are usually old manors, country villas, and homestead that have brick porches complementing to the rest of its architectural design. Seaside dwelling or a high precipitation area like dwellings over the tropics, or even those areas with significant moisture in the atmosphere, typical to heavy wooded areas like in Italy's Umbria have brick porches. Also an influential factor for porch architectural design is culture. Here are some brick porch designs with brick porch floorings. Many modern houses in urban areas that have cemented structure have gorgeous porches. Though cemented, this common feature of modern homes is exquisitely cool and attractive looking. Especially those flats and condominium overlooking a bay and that has floor to ceiling panorama window, when open doubles as fantastic view porch. Take for instance those condominiums for rent over tourist destinations in Florida. Over looking the ocean, at sunset the views are stunning.
